When a person has been wounded, common medical practices involve cleaning the wound and putting ointment and a bandage on it. It is interesting to note that these practices do not directly heal the wound, but create an environment at the site of the wound that removes barriers for the body to heal. It is like this in Reiki. In Reiki, an energetic block occurs. Energy is caught at some point. By extending Reiki, the area is cleansed and cleared to create an environment where the energetic body can restore itself.

When we are a clear channel for our Divine Consciousness, whether this is considered God, God Self, a Higher Power or whatever term is most helpful, feelings of peace and love are a natural result. Being in a peaceful state indicates we are in acceptance of our relationship with the Divine. When the illusion of the self disappears, we are a clear channel. Reiki could be considered a tool to become a clearer channel. Standing upon a pillar of self-practice, we could open ourselves to recognize our connection with the Divine.

The breath can be a natural conduit through which we could extend Reiki energy. It can be seen as a bridge between our Divine Consciousness and our body. By inhaling the light of Reiki and exhaling it out of our hands, we allow ourselves to be a clear channel for this energy. By noticing our inhalation and exhalation, our mind can become a support in opening ourselves to Reiki

It is through our devotion to being a channel for the spiritual energy of Reiki that we create the energetic space to allow ourselves to use it. Devotion involves surrendering our will to the energy of Reiki in the Reiki session.   To allow ourselves to surrender our will in devotion involves trusting that we will be safe and okay when not in charge of our will. A sense of safe experience in Reiki is built upon a foundation of self-treatment. This is one reason why treating the self is the foundation of Reiki practice.

Sometimes when we feel stressed in social interactions we can notice our energy contract. The physical sensation related to this can be a sense of closing or of the chest tightening. This is an evolutionary survival mechanism created by our mind and body that has assisted with keeping ourselves safe. However, these sensations can also be used as reminder that we have limited our connection to Divine Consciousness. We can re-establish this connection by expanding the light of Reiki into ourselves and into the space around us.
