Poem: Consciousness of Death ~ by Caroline Strong

CONSCIOUSNESS OF DEATH I WOKE UP TODAY! By Caroline Strong I woke up this morning Too early for most Today is the day For it will need a loving host I sit here in the waiting room Til the nurses call me in They are bringing in the Minister To cast away all sin I think about yesterday Today and tomorrow This horrible pain This tremendous sorrow We are all gathered around you All of your family and your friends We are telling all of your stories And how they did and did not end We talked about your memories We talked about your dreams We tried to think of more to say To justify these means You are the "MAN" You are my "ROCK" I am sitting here praying That somehow you will beat the clock I woke up early this morning And I knew from the very start I am doing the work for two now Daddy...I am taking on your part! It does not really matter That you have no strength left now I'll take on all your worries Because God will show me how! Just know that you are very loved And that when "YOU" are ready I will be right here, by your side Holding your hands, keeping you steady! Here come the doctors and the nurses They want to talk to me They're saying "Caroline... you are your Dad's living proxy" It's time to pull the plug now, it is time to set him free! I love you so very much This you have got to know But...your breathing is such a struggle Daddy...It is coming way to slow When you see that Bright White Light Know that it's OK… I'll walk with you Daddy The whole entire way! As I sit here and I read to you From the Book of Psalms I can sense the Angel of Death's presence I can feel his coldness in your palms I am trying so hard to help you But there is nothing more I can do The Lord has sent his Angel Daddy...he sent him just for you! One more breath...
