We emerge
from the dark waters,
from the place
where nothing touches,
no sound but music –
one ever-sounding note,

but we emerge,
and we emerge

drawn by a break
in the ever-sound,
a prayer,
a song,
a heart opening.
Two serpents unwind.
They part.
We part.

We emerge
from their parting,
and meet again –

from the two
we three –
Spirit

born knowing,
a rabbit,
helpless
in the eye
of the hunter,
the world we choose
without choosing,

but we emerge
and we emerge

with courage
to be the sacrifice,
the prayer,
the song,
the heart opening.

Two serpents meet.
We emerge from their meeting,
And part again.

We emerge into
every star,
to the place
where everything touches –
great wings of music,
all notes sounding,

we emerge
and we emerge
